Media taken inspiration from and why
you’re on your own, kid | a homemade short film
This short film, titled "you're on your own, kid" Is a 2024 short film created by a college student. The themes of this short film focus on thechanging experiences of adolescence, and the constant intensifying feelings of nostalgia, womanhood, and the song "you're on your own, kid" by Taylor Swift. The film itself is a moving collection of personal photos, videos and stories belonging to a range of women from different backgrounds. This short film also discusses the feelings and emotions of being alone, a plague that haunts many young women in today's society. This short film didn’t consist as much multimedia skills as excepted, but the use of short, old footage from the woman's childhood and adolescence was moving and emotive in its self. Having the ability to click between old footage and saddened footage created a dystopian feeling of disconnect and loss of inocence, a theme I would like to interact with in this project.
JENNIE - ZEN (Official Video)
The use of a wide variety of camera angles and shots is the first thing noticed when watching this music video. The colour grading from black and white, to radiant hot oranges, to muted blues is a main factor when watching and analysing the video. One of the arguably best parts of the video is from 1:24 to 1:27. a small portion but includes flashes of JENNIE in a variety of different clothes, wigs, makeup, showcasing the multiple different personalities she has. The ability to use the camera to evoke that connection is a massive inspiration for me. Another point of inspiration is the way that the music video also listens to what JENNIE is singing creates a more evaluated video, for example when she sings the verse "rain"; the rain begins. Together these factors and more evaluate the music video to be not only emotive but moving.
Stream of Consciousness
Stream of consciousness follows Margo, a teenage girl struggling to find her self-worth without the opinions of others amidst a period of major self- reflection. This short film delves into the perspective and experiences of micro real life for Teenage girls experiencing this. The short film is composed of deep, layered scenes that carry meaning beyond their initial appearance. Each moment invites viewers to look past the surface and uncover subtext that extends beyond the dialogue. It also consists of the "breaking the fourth wall" trope, where the main character speaks directly to the camera, acknowledging the audience and disrupting the boundary between fiction and reality. The colour grading and symbolising adds a further level of intricate attention to detail and ability to connect to emotions further.
The Rise, Fall, rebirth of A dreamer.
this film "The rise, fall, Rebirth of a dreamer" is a 2025 multimedia production video. I wouldn’t classify it as a short film as it is over 30 minutes long, regardless it is moving and empathetic with multimedia skills that are intriguing. Technical- what really struck me about this short film were the transitions between amazing clips and footage. A lot of the clips and footage were already showcasing significant multimedia skills, but seamlessly transitioning from one footage to the other is hypnotising to watch, making the viewer focus more on the narration of the video, or the skills showcased, not getting distracted.
Storyboard
This final storyboard is the completed and refined visual plan for my short film, bringing together the intended camera angles, shot composition, and perspective for every scene. Each panel reflects careful decisions about how the story should be seen; guiding the look and feel that will carry through into production. It serves as the definitive reference connecting my creative vision to the final filmed result.
